In my past 30 years of service at the dealerships as Master Technician all over California. I was frequently asked by friends and other German Car Owners like.. why the Dealerships charged so much for the repair and how come mom and pop shops charged much less. And many times they ended up spending more money getting vehicle fixed by the Dealership; after having Independent shops failed to remedy the problem.

The answer to this question is due to the fact that the Dealership has much more overhead cost than Independent Shop, such as .. high tech coffee maker, snack bar, drinks, luxury waiting room etc., call center, cashier, customer relation, porters, service advisers, manager, assistance manager, foreman, team leaders, time keeper, Master Technicians (required constant training to keep up with modern cars), the list goes on and on...

Every Service Adviser has Sales Quota He or She must meet per week or month depending on the Dealer. Each Technician also has 10.5 hours minimum flag per day work quota. So, the walking pace here like New York Walkers compared to the Suburbs Walkers. More upsell per ticket is recommended.

Most Independent Shop has the owner and member of family doing more than one role, the advisor, time keeper, part guy, shop foreman, technician etc. 

As you can see the different is so obvious and that is why the cost has to be huge different to cover all those expenses.

I also heard many times from Clients that some independent shops over charged for this or that repair, why is that ? this is due to a lack of specialized knowledge, not up to date with how current vehicles systems operated, not equiped with factory level diagnostic testers, resources to carry out test plans and remedy as per factory guided procedures. Therefore, misdiagnose of the problems are very common - un-necessary replacement of expensive parts were performed.

No hidden fee ! every thing we do is very straight forward. Even in complex problems we will advise an elimination process approach with clear view of what would the next steps be after this procedure done and what the worse case be after all these steps performed.
